Who Is Matthew Weiner? 'Mad Men' Creator Accused Of Sexual Harassment

"Mad Men" creator Matthew Weiner has been accused of making a sexually charged remark by the series' writer Kater Gordon, a report published Thursday said.

While working with Weiner late one night in 2008, Gordon claims, the creator said she owed it to him and that she should let him see her naked. However, Weiner's representative denied the claim saying: "He does not remember saying this comment nor does it reflect a comment he would say to any colleague."

Despite Gordon winning an Emmy award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, together with "Mad Men" Weiner, her confidence was crushed due to the Weiner incident.

"I had the Emmy, but instead of being able to use that as a launch pad for the rest of my career, it became an anchor because I felt I had to answer to speculative stories in the press," she said in an interview with The Information, a digital media company founded in December 2016. "I eventually walked away instead of fighting back," she added.

Gordon, now a mother of two, is forming a not-for-profit, Modern Alliance which will help victims of sexual harassment. It will connect organizations working to eradicate the behavior and additionally, Gordon wants to fund research into attitudes around harassment. She will also create online videos and ads to help people confront this kind of attitude.

These allegations against Weiner also coincided with the release of his first novel "Heather, The Totality" published Nov. 7, according to Vox. The novel is about a wealthy couple and their daughter Heather whose beautiful lives are disrupted when their neighbors begin construction on their apartment.

In an interview with GQ published Nov. 9, speaking about misogyny and objectification in the novel, the writer and producer said: "A feminist reading of this book should take it for what it is. To revel in misogyny and present it, and to say that I’m being critical of it, has never been my goal. I’ve been unapologetically critical of it."

Weiner was born June 29, 1965, in Baltimore, Maryland. He is known for his series "Mad Men" (2007), "The Sopranos" (1999) and the comedy film "Are You Here" (2013). He has been married to Linda Brettler since January 1991. They have four children.

After graduating from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Weiner wrote scripts for two years. but earned no income. He said: "The only money I made was being a contestant on "Jeopardy," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Weiner also performed stand-up comedy while being an undergraduate student and his first feature script "What Do You Do All Day" was, in fact, a semi-autobiographical comedy.

Weiner claimed that the series "Mad Men" has been shot entirely on film. He has been fond of film throughout life and said that he will not shoot the show on video until technology catches up with the film. "There's nothing that competes with it. I can tell the difference, and until I can't tell the difference (between film and video), I will stay with film," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
