Who Is Mel B’s Husband Stephen Belaftone? Alleged Abuser Responds To Claims

Former Spice Girls singer Mel B was married to film producer Stephen Belafonte for nearly 10 years before their relationship became estranged. The British star accused him of sexually exploiting her and physically abusing her. Fearing for the safety of herself and their daughters, Madison and Angel, Mel B filed a restraining order against Belafonte Monday.

While most people are more familiar with Mel B, whose full name is Melanie Janine Brown, from her fame with groundbreaking girl group, not as many know Belafonte. As rumors and allegations about their marriage swirl, get more familiar with the Hollywood producer.

According to his profile on the Internet Movie Database, he is best known for working on films like, “Thank You for Smoking,” “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans,” “Mutant Chronicles” and “Never Die Alone.” However, for the past seven years, he does not have any credits.

Belafonte, 41, was surprised by the accusations against him. He told TMZ paparazzi he and Mel B were friends two weeks before she filed the restraining order against him. He denied all accusations.

“That is the mother of my children,” he said about Mel B, 41. “I am really distraught in my brain how this is going to affect our children and the depths that she’s going through… I’m shocked at those allegations…”

He alleged he was being set up after the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) raided his home in search of a gun. “I think someone is trying to set me up to look like a bad guy. I mean, obviously you saw my house got raided and no one found anything,” he told the paparazzi. “It’s accusation after accusation. But we’ll have our day in court.”

The day before Mel B filed a restraining order, Belafonte took their daughter for lunch to celebrate her birthday. “Everybody wish my beautiful daughter Angel a happy 10th birthday it's actually on Monday! You're growing into such an amazing beautiful person with one of the biggest hearts I've ever seen someone have!!! You too Maddy bears!” he wrote on Instagram Sunday. The post was viewed more than 9,000 times by his 29,000 followers.
