Who Is Monica Wright? Kevin Durant Proposes To WNBA Star [PHOTOS]

NBA player Kevin Durant is engaged to Monica Wright, two years after sending her a flirtatious tweet about needing a basketball player girlfriend. Back in 2011, the Oklahoma City Thunder star sent a tweet Sept. 5 reading, “Or maybe I need a basketball playing girlfriend…hmmm lol…monica write where r u (love n basketball) [sic],” referencing the 2000 romantic basketball film.

Not much is known about their relationship, but the pair have been close since high school, as they were both basketball stars, and began quietly dating just months ago before Durant, 24, reportedly proposed July 6.

Wright, also 24-years-old, now plays for the WNBA Minnesota Lynx after being a second overall draft pick in 2010. She attended the University of Virginia prior to joining the league and was the ACC Rookie of the Year as a freshman.

Durant is not the only basketball player set to walk down the aisle soon. Fellow NBA star LeBron James is set to marry Savannah Brinson the weekend of Sept. 13-15 in San Diego. The couple have been together since high school, and they have two sons together, LeBron Jr. and Bryce. The 28-year-old NBA star proposed to her at a New Year’s Eve party last year.
