Who Is Richard Anderson? ‘Six Million Dollar Man’ Actor Dies At 91
“Six Million Dollar Man” actor Richard Anderson passed away on Thursday, Aug. 31. He was 91.
According to Deadline, no cause of death has been released following the actor’s demise. He is survived by his three daughters from a previous marriage to Katherine Thalberg: Ashley, Brooke and Deva. Following his death, Anderson’s daughter, Ashley, released a statement saying, “Our dad was always there for us and showed us by loving example how to live a full and rich life with gratitude, grace, humor and fun.”
Prior to becoming an actor, Anderson first worked as a messenger for MGM. But Anderson will be best remembered for playing the role of Goldman in “Six Million Dollar Man.” The show eventually gave birth to the spinoff, “The Bionic Woman,” where he co-starred with Lee Majors and Lindsay Wagner. Due to the show’s success, as well as Goldman’s popularity, an action figure that looked exactly like the character was released in the market.
Major released a statement following Anderson’s passing and said that he will miss his friend. He also detailed how the two of them met and got along on set. “I met Richard in 1976 when he first guest starred on ‘The Big Valley’ – we worked together on five episodes. In 1974, he joined me as my boss, Oscar Goldman, in ‘The Six Million Dollar Man.’ Richard became a dear and loyal friend, and I have never met a man like him. I called him ‘Old Money.’ His always stylish attire, his class, calmness and knowledge never faltered in his 91 years…” he said.
Wagner also said that her co-star will be greatly missed. “I can’t begin to say how much I have always admired and have been grateful for the elegance and loving friendship I was blessed to have with Richard Anderson,” she said.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anderson was born on Aug. 8, 1926 in Long Branch, New Jersey. His family moved to Los Angeles when he was just 10 years old. He went to the University High School and served in the Army during World War II for 17 months. After which, he went to Actors Laboratory in Los Angeles.
