Who Is Rory Farquharson? Malia Obama's 'Mystery Guy' A Harvard Sophomore

Malia Obama's “mystery guy,” the student, who was caught passionately kissing the former first daughter before the Harvard-Yale football game on Saturday, has been revealed to be the valedictorian of one England’s premier boarding schools, who reportedly met the former first daughter at Harvard University, several news reports said Wednesday.

Rory Farquharson, 19, a former head boy at the prestigious Rugby School, was linked to former President Barack Obama's eldest daughter after footage surfaced on Saturday, which appeared to show them kissing during the Harvard vs. Yale American football game.

Malia started at the Ivy League university in the fall of 2017, following in the footsteps of her parents, who both attended Harvard Law. Farquharson is said to have joined Harvard in the fall of 2016.

In August 2016, Farquharson posted a photo of himself to his Facebook profile with his friends outside of Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and captioned it saying "So it begins." Farquharson grew up in London and attends Harvard University as a member of the class of 2020.

According to the Daily Mail, Farquharson had been the head boy or valedictorian of his high school, Rugby School, during his senior year 2015 and 2016. A source who also attended the school while Farquharson was studying there, referred to Malia’s new boyfriend as "quite a catch. He was very popular."

The 19-year-old was also a member of the school's chemistry club the Blue Bunsen Society. He reportedly even took part in a rugby video played at the World Cup Opening ceremony in 2015, in which Britain's Prince Harry also made an appearance. Farquharson is said to have spent the summer working as an intern with the Centre for Democracy and Peace Building in Northern Ireland, the Telegraph reported.

Farquharson follows President Donald Trump on his Twitter account but is not a follower of former President Barack Obama. However, his last tweet showcased an article that was severely critical of the current president and the populism that got him elected to the office, Heavy.com reported.

Farquharson's father Charles, 57, is the chief executive of Insight Investment Management Limited based in London and has a degree in law from St. Catharine’s College, Cambridge. His mother Catherine, 58, is a qualified accountant who sits on the boards of financial and legal tribunals in London's Upper Tribunal, according to the Telegraph.

A video of Malia and Farquharson surfaced Monday where the former first daughter was seen wrapping arms around a boy and kissing him at the festivities outside the Yale Bowl.

In the video, Malia was seen wearing an oversized yellow puffer coat, white leggings, boots and a tan bucket hat with the Harvard 'H' written on the front. Farquharson was seen wearing a black jacket, a red long-sleeved Harvard T-shirt, black jeans, and black sneakers.

While talking about Malia and Sasha's dating lives, former President Obama in 2016 had said that he was "pretty relaxed about it for two reasons."

"One is [their mom] Michelle. She's taught—she's such a great example of how she carries herself, her self-esteem, not depending on boys to validate how you look or you know, not letting yourself be judged by anything other than your character and intelligence," he said. "And hopefully I've been a good example in terms of how I've shown respect to my wife. So I don't worry about it because they're really solid, smart girls—young ladies now."

Talking about the other reason, Barack said: "They've had Secret Service. There's only so much these guys can do. These poor young men come by my house and…. They have no idea..."
