As the circumstances surrounding the death of Adrian Peterson’s 2-year-old son continue to come into focus, rumors are swirling online regarding the identity of the toddler and his mother.

Peterson’s 2-year-old son died on Friday after an alleged attack by Joseph “Joey” Patterson, a 27-year-old man from Sioux Falls, S.D., who had been dating the mother of Peterson's child. While local police have refused to publicly reveal the name of the toddler or his mother, several websites are reporting that Peterson’s son -- officially identified only as “Ty” -- may be the child of a Sioux Falls woman named Ann “Ashley” Doohen.

On Friday night, Sioux Falls residents held a candlelight vigil for Peterson’s son, who died that afternoon from injuries sustained in the attack, The Argus Leader reports. The 2-year-old was reportedly called “Ty” by those who knew him. “I can’t believe this is happening,” Jennifer Miklos, Ty’s day care supervisor, told The Leader. Attendees of the vigil told the newspaper that they knew Ty’s mother -- a Sioux Falls woman who is rumored to be named Ann “Ashley” Doohen.

Doohen’s purported Facebook page seems to support the rumors that she is the mother of Peterson’s deceased son. The Sioux Falls woman has posted several photos of a young male child who appears to be approximately the same age Peterson’s son was reported to be at the time of his death, prompting several sites to identify the child as “Ty Doohen.” However, authorities have yet to verify that information.

In addition, Doohen posted a photo of her infant son on Thursday, Oct. 10 -- the same day that Peterson’s son is believed to have entered critical care for “severe head wounds.” By Monday, the photo had received 66 “likes” and more than a dozen comments from Facebook users who wished to express their condolences, many of whom identified the child as “Ty.”

“I am praying for you and your family. I can’t imagine the hurt in your heart. I will continue to keep you in my prayers and may God wrap his loving arms around you,” one Facebook user wrote. Additional photos of “Ty” Doohen can be found here.

Lastly -- but perhaps most notably -- Doohen interacted with the Facebook profile of a person named “Joey Patterson,” mere days before a 27-year-old man of the same name allegedly attacked Peterson’s son. The “Joey Patterson” profile contains several photos of the same man who authorities publicly identified as the alleged attacker.

Patterson, 27, was arrested on Friday and charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery of an infant, the New York Daily News reports. He is currently being held on $750,000 cash bond.

This isn’t the first time that Patterson has been accused of domestic violence. According to the Argus Leader, Patterson was indicted in June 2012 on charges of assaulting his former girlfriend and her 3-year-old son. According to the woman’s account, Patterson struck her child after he misbehaved in church, then grabbed her by the throat when she attempted to intervene. “He has [threatened] to kill me multiple times,” Patterson’s former girlfriend wrote in a request for a protection order.
