Why Bill Cosby Sent A Thank You Message To Snoop Dogg From Prison
Bill Cosby is currently serving a three to 10-year prison sentence but that hasn't stopped him from posting on social media.
The 82-year-old took a moment on Thursday to thank Snoop Dogg for his response to the backlash surrounding a viral clip in which CBS "This Morning" host Gayle King asked retired WNBA star Lisa Leslie about the legacy of Kobe Bryant.
"Snoop - when they brought me to my gated community and placed me inside of my penthouse, they didn’t win nor did they silence me," the comedian began his post.
"It’s so sad and disappointing that successful Black Women are being used to tarnish the image and legacy of successful Black Men, even in death. Are these people that in need of fame, ratings and/or money?" Cosby asked. "On behalf of myself, Camille and my family, thank you, thank you and thank you. My heartfelt prayers are with Kobe and his family, as well as with Michael Jackson and his family. May their legacies live on forever."
Cosby followed up the post to the rapper with a series of hashtags including #ThankYouSnoopDogg #BetOnBlackLegacy #StopTearingDownBlackMen #EnoughIsEnough and #KobeLegacyLivesOn.
Despite hosting the controversial interview, King has also responded negatively to the clip. After footage of her interview with Leslie made its rounds, King posted a video response to Instagram, which she captioned, "My perspective."
"I know that if I had only seen the clip that you saw, I'd be extremely angry with me too. I am mortified, I'm embarrassed and I am very angry," the 65-year-old journalist admitted.
King went on to explain that the clip of the sit-down interview she had with Leslie was only a small part of a "wide-ranging interview" and was taken "out of context." She added that the video "did not reflect the nature and tone of the full interview."
