Why Camilla Parker Bowles Is Receiving This New Title

She’s already a Duchess and is set to take on the role of a Queen Consort when her husband is crowned King. However, Camilla Parker Bowles is now adding another title to her name—Godmother.

According to Express UK, the Duchess of Cornwall has been announced as the Godmother of Saga’s newest cruise ship, Spirit of Discovery, and will christen the boat at a naming ceremony at the Port of Dover on July 5. After the ceremony, the ship will officially begin to embark on cruises around Europe.

Camilla likely earned the new title as a patron for the charity The Silver Line, which is Saga’s first national charity.

“I am delighted that the Duchess of Cornwall has agreed to be Godmother of the Spirit of Discovery,” group CEO of Saga, Lance Batchelor, said. “The launch of our new ship is a key moment in both the history and future of Saga.”

The new title comes after the Duchess of Cornwall dominated headlines during Day One of President Donald Trump’s visit to the UK. After greeting the president and his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, the Duchess of Cornwall was caught on camera winking at someone off-screen as Trump was led away by her husband, Prince Charles.

The Duchess has often found herself grabbing headlines due to the taboo nature of her relationship with Prince Charles. Though the pair have been married since 2005, they did engage in an extramarital affair while he was still married to Princess Diana. As a result, she has not always been so warmly welcomed by the public and faced criticism for different things she’s done.

Back in March, the Duchess of Cornwall was heavily criticized for wearing a shade that looked like it matched the Queen’s own purple outfit during Commonwealth Day Services, and was criticized for appearing “desperate” to be Queen by copying her mother-in-law.
