Last year, there were reports claiming that the Duchess of Sussex made her sister-in-law Middleton cry during Princess Charlotte’s dress fitting. The Telegraph’s royal correspondent Camilla Tominey was the first to break the story.

One netizen took to Quora and asked why Markle did it. Some didn’t believe the story, while others were convinced that there was a reason why Markle and Middleton reacted the way they did.

“Catherine had just had Prince Louis and by all accounts was hormonal and emotional. For all we know she could have just been emotional at how cute Princess Charlotte looked,” Gail Neschen, a marketing director, wrote.

Erin Marie, an amateur historian, doubted if the incident really happened. According to her, most of the conflict between Middleton and Markle are made up to sell papers, but she admitted that she wouldn’t be surprised if there were “some genuine tension.”

Michele Chur is also not sure if she should believe the story, but she shared probably reasons if it indeed occurred.

“What I do know is that at that time Kate was likely at the end of her pregnancy or had just given birth. Meghan was probably overwhelmed and trying to manage a wedding that would be seen on the world stage,” she wrote.

“Both women would have been heavily criticized if something had gone wrong. Both were under enormous pressure. So it’s possible she cried and that it did not occur because meghan was being cruel.”

Royal expert Leslie Carroll believed that there was a reason why it happened and it could be due to the pressing situations they were facing at the time. She pointed out how Middleton was postpartum and was “hormonal and sensitive” because she just gave birth to her third son, Prince Louis.

On the other hand, Markle, whom many described as “kind,” had so much on her plate. “[So] it wouldn’t have been surprising if she did snap,” Carroll said.

In related news, Markle reportedly made Middleton cry again at Archie’s baptism rehearsal. Sources said that Markle approached Middleton and warned her to not steal their thunder. After the confrontation, Middleton left in tears with Prince William comforting her.
