Why Does Mark Ruffalo Believe There Will Never Be A Standalone ‘Hulk’ Movie?
Mark Ruffalo is sure that there will never be a standalone “Hulk” movie.
While speaking with Variety at the D23 Expo on Saturday, July 15, the actor explained why he believes his character will not get his own movie like Captain America (Chris Evans) or Thor (Chris Hemsworth). “Universal has the rights, and for some reason, they don’t know how to play well with Marvel. And, they don’t want to make money,” he jokingly said.
Ruffalo was at the expo with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, as well as some Marvel Cinematic Universe favorites, to showcase the trailer for “Avengers: Infinity War.” Following the release of the newest clip, Ruffalo and his co-stars received deafening applause from the crowd.

According to the publication, Universal has had all the rights to the “Hulk” franchise since 2003. At the time, Hulk was still played by Eric Bana. In 2007, “The Incredible Hulk” was released starring Edward Norton. It was only in 2012 that Ruffalo gave life to the character in the first “Avengers” film.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time that Ruffalo said that he will not star in his own “Hulk” movie. In 2015, the actor spoke with Collider where he also said a similar thing. “As far as a ‘Hulk’ movie, a standalone ‘Hulk’ movie, Marvel doesn’t really have the rights to that yet. That’s still Universal’s property, so there’s that issue. That’s a big impediment to moving forward with that. Now that I don’t think that’s insurmountable, by the way, but I don’t know where it’s going from here for me,” he said.
Unfortunately, even today, Marvel and Universal have not yet agreed on anything regarding “Hulk.”
But Rufallo said that even if the Hulk will not have his own movie anytime soon, the character could be seen in many other films in the coming years. Two years ago, he said that he has four movies coming up. “I think it’s four now, but that could always go further. That could include different – I could show up in another character’s movie; I could do ‘Avengers’ 3 and 4; I could do a ‘Hulk’ standalone; I could do a combination of those things. That’s four or five, I think,” he said.
“Avengers: Infinity Wars” will hit theaters May 4, 2018.
