KEY POINTS

  • Donald Trump Jr. tweets a photo of Bill Clinton with a copy of his book, "Triggered," while Hillary looks on, apparently jealous
  • Triggered is now Number 9 on the New York Times hardcover bestseller list. It debuted at Number One in the first week of November
  • Don Jr. mistakenly thinks Dec. 14 is the "second day" of Christmas

The once mighty book, "Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us," by Donald Trump Jr., which debuted Number One on the New York Times (NYT) nonfiction hardcover bestseller list in the first week of November, has fallen on hard times.

The latest NYT nonfiction hardcover ranking has "Triggered" at Number 9, and rumors are swirling sales of this book -- which was degraded by an NYT dagger (†) indicating bulk purchases are driving its sales -- are tanking. It's been replaced at Number One by "Me," Elton John's autobiography. Rising to Number Four is Michelle Obama's deeply personal autobio, "Becoming," which is now 52 weeks on the hardcover bestseller list.

Even the book that was second to "Triggered" when the latter debuted, "Sam Houston and the Alamo Avengers," by Fox TV host Brian Kilmeade, has done better at getting sold than Don Jr.'s. work. Sam Houston sits at Number Three.

What's a presidential son to do to boost the flagging sales of his once proud bestseller?

Create controversy, of course. Which is what Don Jr. did when he tweeted on December 14 a photoshopped photo showing Hillary and Bill Clinton in bed. Bill has a copy of "Triggered" by his side while Hillary looks on, apparently jealous.

Don Jr.'s tweet reads, "It’s actually the 2nd day of Christmas, it’s time to get your loved one (or anyone else) a copy of Triggered. Melt the snowflakes in your life at http://Triggeredbook.com #triggered." The meme reads: "On the First Day of Christmas, my true love gave to me ..."

Already contemptuous for daring to assume the Clintons would bother to look at his book much less buy one, Don Jr. compounded his misjudgment by making a glaring Christian error. Don Jr. doesn't seem to know when the 12 Days of Christmas start.

He assumed the second day of this 12 day feast is December 14. The math is simple to Don: 25 minus 12 = 13, so December 14 (when he made the tweet) is the second day of Christmas.

And as that famous Christmas carol goes: "On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me, Two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree."

Christians blasted Don Jr. on Twitter for his ignorance and getting it all wrong. The 12 Days of Christmas, as any devout Christian knows, actually lasts from December 25 to January 5.

Also known as Twelvetide, the Twelve Days of Christmas is a festive Christian season celebrating the Nativity of Jesus. In most Western ecclesiastical traditions, Christmas Day is considered the "First Day of Christmas."

Someone tweeted: "I would think a good Christian like yourself would know that the 12 days of Christmas are 25 December through 5 January, but maybe not."

"Im jewish and I knew that!" tweeted another. A tweeter said, "Pagan and I knew that, too."

Don Jr., the First Day of Christmas is still nine days away.
