KEY POINTS

  • Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady said in separate statements that they "amicably finalized" their divorce Friday
  • Fans were not convinced the split was amicable due to the difference in tone between their statements
  • Some speculated Bundchen shaded him by emphasizing that her priority has always been their kids

Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady's fans think the exes may not have ended their 13-year marriage as amicably as they want the public to believe.

The 42-year-old supermodel's word choice in the statement she issued Friday announcing her divorce from Brady, 45, has led some fans and social media users to speculate that she may be throwing some subtle shade at her now ex-husband.

Bundchen appeared to make it clear that she has always put her family first, unlike the NFL superstar, according to Page Six.

"My priority has always been and will continue to be our children whom I love with all my heart. We will continue co-parenting to give them the love, care and attention they greatly deserve," she wrote in the statement released via Instagram Stories, adding, "The decision to end a marriage is never easy, but we have grown apart."

In his own statement, Brady referred to Bundchen as his "wife" and said that they arrived at the decision the part ways "after much consideration."

"In recent days, my wife and I finalized our divorce from one another after 13 years of marriage," he wrote on Instagram Stories Friday. "We arrived at this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. We are blessed with beautiful and wonderful children who will continue to be the center of our world in every way. We will continue to work together as parents to always ensure they receive the love and attention they deserve."

Twitter users noticed the difference in tone between Bundchen's and Brady's statements.

"I feel like with Gisele saying, 'we grew apart,' and Tom Brady just being like, 'this is amicable,' sounds a little different," Regina Ham commented.

"But the nuance of Gisele and her ex-husband's divorce announcement... Like him saying, 'my wife and I,' [and] Gisele only calling him by his name. Him putting all in 'we', [and] Gisele saying 'my priority is always my kids.' I don't think this was that amicable," another tweeted.

"Two completely different narratives about the divorce...Good for Gisele, I love how she said, 'my priority,' because we know Brady doesn't give a [f---] about her or their kids," a third user added.

"Gisele Bündchen's emphasis on 'my priority has always been and will continue to be our children whom I love with all my heart' is the real gag!" another person tweeted alongside a gif of a chef's kiss.

Brady and Bundchen's divorce ends a relationship that began when they started dating 16 years ago before tying the knot in 2009. They share two children, Benjamin, 12, and Vivian, 9. The NFL star is also a dad to son Jack, 15, whom he shares with ex Bridget Moynahan.

Prior to their divorce, the pair lived separately for weeks after an alleged fight over his decision to unretire from the NFL, according to reports.

Brady announced his retirement from football in February, but weeks later, he reversed his decision and returned for his 23rd season.

In September, Bundchen told Elle magazine that she had her concerns over him returning to "a very violent sport" and that she would "like him to be more present" with their children.

The former Victoria's Secret Angel also expressed her desire to pursue her personal goals after putting her career on hold for her family as Brady focused on his NFL career.
