Why George W Bush Is Excited For Biden's Inauguration Despite Their 'Differences'
Former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura Bush will be attending President-elect Joe Biden’s Inauguration, and they’ve announced that they’re looking forward to the occasion.
The couple has attended seven Inauguration ceremonies, and this one will be their eighth.
"President and Mrs. Bush look forward to returning to the Capitol for the swearing-in of President Biden and Vice President Harris," Bush's chief of staff Freddy Ford wrote on Twitter.
The couple will again be "witnessing the peaceful transfer of power" which "is a hallmark of our democracy that never gets old," he continued.
When Biden was first announced the winner of the 2020 presidential election, the 74-year-old took to Instagram and social media to congratulate him, even though they are apart of opposing parties.
“Though we have political differences, I know Joe Biden to be a good man, who has won his opportunity to lead and unify our country. The President-elect reiterated that while he ran as a Democrat, he will govern for all Americans. I offered him the same thing I offered Presidents Trump and Obama: my prayers for his success, and my pledge to help in any way I can,” he stated.
"The fact that so many of our fellow citizens participated in this election is a positive sign of the health of our democracy and a reminder to the world of its strength," he continued.
When the news was announced on social media and in news outlets that the couple would be attending, some Americans were happy to hear this, while others were skeptical about it.
Along with the Bushes, the Obamas and the Clintons are expected to make an appearance on Jan. 20, even though they haven’t officially announced it, People reported. Jimmy Carter and his wife will be watching virtually from their home in Georgia due to the pandemic.
It’s unconfirmed if President Trump will be attending or not.
