Why Jamie Spears Wants To Step Down As Britney's Conservator Amid Abuse Accusations
There's a lot going on in the Spears' household right now, but the latest development surrounding Jamie Spears might be a way to bring them all back together.
Britney Spears' father, Jamie Spears, is asking "to temporarily relinquish the powers of conservatorship... due to personal health reasons" through Jan. 20, 2020, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ.
The 67-year-old wouldn't just abandon his duties as conservator, though. He's requested that the "Toxic" singer's care manager for the last year, Jodi Montgomery -- who has already consented -- to temporarily take over.
Jamie noted that although Britney is "able but unwilling" to attend the hearing, she does not object to his request. At the time, it's unknown when the hearing will be scheduled, but the entertainment news site stated that he's hoping for as soon as Monday, Sept. 9.
News of the starlet's father wanting to step down comes days after he was accused of abusing her 13-year-old son Sean Preston.
An insider revealed, "Britney had the boys at Jamie's condo on the evening of August 24. Jamie and Sean Preston got into an argument. Sean Preston felt unsafe and locked himself into a room. Jamie broke into the room and shook Sean Preston."
