Why Jennette McCurdy Quit Acting Before 'iCarly' Revival
The “iCarly” reboot is coming to Parmount+ and favorite stars will be back on the screen, except for Sam, aka Jennette McCurdy.
The 28-year-old has been very vocal about her stance on coming back to the show, and it hasn’t been a positive one. She’s also announced that, in addition to not returning, she is quitting acting altogether.
"I quit a few years ago to try my hand and writing and directing—it's going great," she said during an episode of her podcast, “Empty Inside.”. "I quit a few years ago because I initially didn't want to do it.”
“My mom put me in it when I was 6 and by sort of age, I guess, 10 or 11, I was the main financial support for my family. My family didn't have a lot of money, and this was the way out, which I actually think was helpful in driving me to some degree of success,” she explained.
After her mom passed away from cancer in 2013, her love for acting kind of went with it. She explained to Anna Faris on the show that she wanted to start her own journey, and not one that her mom wanted her to be on.
Her most recent project was her one-woman show “I’m Glad My Mom Died” which aired in Los Angeles in February 2020, according to E! News. Nothing else seems to be in the works for McCurdy at the moment.
"I wrote this one-woman show, and I performed that, and I really did not want to because of the nerves,'" she stated. "Because of feeling like I don't want to [Expletive] act anymore, 'I'm done.' So I did it just for that show, but I think that one-woman show would be the most of it."
McCurdy went on to recall her teenage years, along with her stint on Nickelodeon and said it was “embarrassing” and that she felt “unfulfilled.” It’s easy to see why she might not want to join Miranda Cosgrove and the other cast members in this reboot.
A premiere date for the revival hasn't been announced yet.
