Why Is Johnny Depp Being Called A 'Habitual Liar' By His Former Business Managers
“The Pirates of the Caribbean” actor Johnny Depp’s former business managers called him a “habitual liar” Wednesday in response to the actor’s comments in an interview on Tuesday with the Wall Street Journal where he said they “clearly let me down.”
David Shane, a spokesman for the Management Group, issued a statement to the Associated Press saying that Depp is a "habitual liar who denies responsibility for his own outrageous conduct and coerces others to lie for him." Shane also mentioned in his statement that Depp was solely responsible for his financial difficulties.
Depp sued The Management Group (TMG) in January for over $25 million claiming negligence and fraud. The group countersued the actor saying that they had warned Depp of spending lavishly on private jets, art, homes, memorabilia and up to $30,000 per month only in wine.
The Management Group that is run by brothers Joel and Rob Mandel in its countersuit claimed that Depp's lifestyle has been costing over $2 million a month. The lawsuit also alleged that the actor paid almost $75 million to purchase and maintain 14 homes, including a chain of islands in the Bahamas and a French chateau.
"Why didn't they drop me as a client if I was so out of control?" Depp told the Wall Street Journal in his first public comments since filing his lawsuit in January.
"I've worked very, very hard for a lot of years and trusted a lot of people, some who've clearly let me down,” he added.
Depp told the Journal: “It’s my money....If I want to buy 15,000 cotton balls a day, it’s my thing.”
Shane’s statement said that the actor admits to his lavish expenses but blames the Management Group for “not dropping him as a client.”
"Johnny Depp and his sister were involved in every significant business decision during the 17 years TMG represented him. Depp now admits to his extravagant spending but blames TMG for not dropping him as a client." AP said in its report.
