Kate Middleton almost broke down in tears after Prince William greeted her on her birthday years ago.

According to royal expert Kate Nicholl, the Duchess of Cambridge could no longer take the ongoing media scrutiny that she was faced with at that time. Since Middleton started dating Prince William, it has been difficult for the Duchess of Cambridge to lead a private life.

“When William called to wish Kate a happy birthday, she was close to tears, and the prince instructed his aides to issue a statement complaining about the level of harassment Kate was experiencing. His message to the press was unequivocal: leave Kate alone,” Nicholl said (via Express).

And even though Prince William and Prince Harry are rumored to be feuding with each other, it seems that the royal siblings share at least one thing in common. They are both very protective of their wives.

Several years after Prince William urged the media to leave Middleton in peace, Prince Harry did a similar thing for Markle. After confirming their romance, the Duke of Sussex issued a statement through his press secretary urging the public to treat his then-girlfriend with respect.

His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public – the smear on the front page of a national paper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments,” the statement read.

In the statement, Prince Harry also expressed his worry about Markle and said that he is deeply disappointed in himself that he has not protected her. But since that time, the Duke of Sussex has stepped up in protecting his now-wife.

The new dad has also been very keen about giving the Duchess of Sussex and their son, Archie, a private life. The royal couple tied the knot on May 19, 2018, and they welcomed their son on May 6.
