It was a joyous day for the royal family as they celebrated the Christening of baby Archie Harrison, the first son of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. However, a specific member of the royal family is getting some serious criticism over a piece of jewelry she opted to wear for the event.

In the official family portrait of the event, Kate Middleton, Harry and Meghan’s sister-in-law, is seated to the couple’s right and is seen wearing a red headpiece, pink dress and red shoes. However, eagle-eyed royal fans also noticed a distinct pair of earrings that were in the Duchess of Cambridge’s ears—and some decided to criticize the future Queen Consort, stating that her decision to wear them was disrespectful to Markle, who should have been the star of the photograph.

Fans took to social media to blast the Duchess, who was wearing the same Collingwood Pearl earrings Princess Diana wore for Prince Harry’s christening in 1984, stating that the right thing to do would actually have been for her to offer the jewelry to her sister-in-law, who was the one celebrating her son.

“I think Kate wanted to upstage Meghan. With all the earrings at Kate’s disposal, why did she wear the one that Diana wore during Harry’s christening? Personally, I would have given Meghan that earring,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“Kate is petty too,” another chimed in. “Why would she dress as she did and wear those earrings to Archie’s christening?”

One fan also criticized Middleton by stating that the way Markle dressed for Prince Louis’s christening in 2018 was significantly more respectful, and she should have taken a cue from her sister-in-law when she was basically asked to return the favor.

“Exactly. When Meghan attended Louis christening she wore olive green and blended in the background so Kate and L could have their moment that’s all Kate had to do,” the fan wrote. “It would have been gracious if she let Meg borrow earrings for the day.”

Of course, as Cosmo points out, there’s no way of knowing for sure if an offer was actually made to Markle that extended the earrings to her. However, her own earrings received criticism as well, as the pair were $15k ones from Cartier, which were seen as too lavish following a bevy of overspending concerns.
