Why Kate Middleton, Prince William Are Unlikely To See Harry And Meghan While In US: Report
KEY POINTS
- Prince William and Kate Middleton could travel outside of Massachusetts "if the calendar permits," a report says
- The royal couple reportedly likely won't meet up with the Sussexes because it's difficult to organize something "discreet"
- There is reportedly a mutual feeling that it's best for the two couples to maintain their distance until the Sussexes' projects are out
Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are unlikely to reunite while the Prince and Princess of Wales are in the U.S., according to reports.
Prince William and Princess Kate are currently in Boston, Massachusetts, for the second annual Earthshot Prize awards ceremony, which will be held at the MGM Music Hall Friday.
An anonymous source told Us Weekly that Prince William and Middleton "had ample time to prepare" for the Boston event before their arrival Wednesday.
While they could "possibly take a trip outside of Massachusetts if the calendar permits," the insider said the couple is unlikely to hang out with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who live in Santa Barbara, California.
"It's not impossible that they'll get to see Harry and Meghan, but at this point, that's looking less likely," the source claimed. "They realize it's almost impossible to organize something that would be discreet."
An unnamed source close to Prince William and Middleton also confirmed to Entertainment Tonight earlier this week that the couple has no plans to see Prince Harry and Markle during their visit stateside.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to attend and accept an award at the annual Ripple of Hope Award Gala in Manhattan, New York City, Tuesday. But Prince William and Middleton are expected to be back in the U.K. by that time.
The Waleses and the Sussexes were last seen together in the U.K. during Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September. Reports claimed at the time that Prince Harry and Markle had no plans to meet with the royal family while they were in Europe for charity events until the Queen's death on Sept. 8 led to a reunion.
Prince William invited his younger brother and sister-in-law to join him and Middleton on a walkabout at Windsor Castle in England two days after Queen Elizabeth's death. Their public reunion garnered positive reactions from royal fans.
It "was an important show of unity at an incredibly difficult time for the family," an unnamed royal source told People at the time.
"It's such an extraordinary historical moment and also a deeply personal one for the family that you'd hope and think that all members of the family would unite and support [the King] especially. And perhaps some of those wounds can be healed in the process," an unnamed palace insider added.
But despite putting on a united front while mourning the late Queen, their relationship reportedly remained strained after Prince Harry and Markle flew back to California.
"[They have] a mutual feeling at the moment that it's for the best if the four of them have a little distance from one another, until the documentary has aired and the fuss surrounding Harry's memoir has calmed down," Us Weekly's source claimed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's docuseries with Netflix will premiere on Dec. 8. Prince Harry's memoir "Spare" will hit shelves on Jan. 10.
