Why Kyle O'Reilly Joining AEW Plants Seeds For Perfect Storyline

Former NXT star Kyle O’Reilly has jumped ship to WWE’s biggest rival in a surprise move that sets up a massive storyline for him, Bobby Fish, Adam Cole and the rest of The Elite in AEW.

In the opening match of AEW Holiday Bash, Cole went up against fan-favorite Orange Cassidy in a singles match.

Fish went up on the ring apron and distracted the referee which allowed O’Reilly to make his surprise arrival in AEW and beat down on Cassidy, allowing Cole to hit his finisher, The Last Shot, to pick up the victory.

The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) took to the ring to confront the reunited front of Cole, Fish and O’Reilly, before the former leader of the Undisputed Era stable motioned for the reunited ReDRagon tag team to join him in walking out of the ring and back to the locker rooms.

Cole’s dismissal of the Young Bucks in the ring immediately hints at a situation where the two teams will have to fight it out as to who deserves Cole’s attention more.

This is a perfect setup for AEW’s future events as Cole’s history between both tag teams is set to bring out the best from all performers.

Cole and the Young Bucks’ history dates back to their Ring of Honor days, where they acted as a subgroup of Kenny Omega’s The Elite stable before Cole signed with WWE.

In that same regard, pro wrestling fans are no stranger to ReDRagon and Cole as they performed together during their time in WWE’s developmental NXT brand.

Now that O’Reilly is with AEW, it opens the narrative of Cole torn between whether to stay under The Elite with his longtime friends or to rejoin his most recent but equally popular group as its leader, essentially reforming the Undisputed Era.

Fan interest in both groups fighting over Cole is set to draw in NXT fans who became enamored with the original members of the Undisputed Era.

Over the coming weeks, the pro wrestling world will be buzzing regarding where AEW will take this potential-laden storyline as fans are aware that the it is holding a golden storyline that will help carry the company well into the future.
