Meghan Markle reportedly copyrighted one of the touching things his dad, Thomas Markle Sr., used to say to him as a young girl.

According to the US Copyright office, the phrase “a face without freckles is a night without stars” was created in the official records in 1995. At that time, Markle was just 14 years old. The listing was registered on Jan. 18, 1996, under the name Rachel Meghan Markle and with the birth year of 1981.

The Duchess of Sussex was born on Aug. 4, 1981. And the copyrighted quote was reportedly said to Markle by her dad while she was growing up under his care.

Markle has always embraced her natural looks and she hated it when photographers would airbrush her freckles off her face. During an interview with Allure magazine, the former actress said that this was one of her pet peeves.

“To this day, my pet peeve is when my skin tone is changed and my freckles are airbrushed out of a photo shoot,” she said.

Markle’s copyrighted phrase from Thomas goes a long way back and things have changed between their relationship. Prior to marrying Prince Harry, Markle had already been estranged from her dad especially after he gave interviews to the press.

Thomas was invited to walk Markle down the aisle at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018. However, he didn’t make it to his daughter’s special day. Prior to the wedding, Thomas suffered from a stroke and had to undergo surgery.

After the wedding, Markle reached out to her dad via a handwritten letter where she begged for him to stop talking to the media. However, Markle’s request fell on deaf ears.

Thomas continued to give interviews to the press but he stopped recently after the birth of his grandson, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Royal experts are convinced that this was Thomas’ way of trying to get on his daughter’s good side so he could meet his grandson.
