She’s attended Christmas with the Royals before, but Meghan Markle is being warned to make sure she stays close to either her husband, Prince Harry, or the Queen herself when she attends this year’s celebrations.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, revealed that he would advise the Duchess of Sussex to stick by Harry and Queen Elizabeth II as much as possible, because other members of the royal family will attempt to “trip her up” as they celebrate the holidays together.

The former royal butler warned that in light of recent negative press Markle has been receiving where she’s been branded as “difficult” and even blamed for an alleged rift with Kate Middleton makes her a prime target for negative attention during the holidays, and other members of the royal family are sure to try and do this.

“I personally think she’s finding it tough in there, no one could prepare her for it, not even on a film set, but this is the real world,” he said.” “Imagine Downton, but ramp it up. Sandringham is ‘Downton Abbey’ on speed.”

He warned that because Markle is from such a different background that the other members of the family will try to cause some pitfalls for her, but with Prince Harry’s support, as well as the Queen’s she should make it through the holidays just fine.

“At least Meghan has the support of Harry, he’s been there, done it, it’s part of his world. This is the way granny does it, we pay respect to it,” he said. “But she’s going to come up with opposition within the four walls of the royal household and they will be seen as negatives, like Diana did.”

“Because Kate came from their [sort of] background, Meghan isn’t like that. They are going to set traps, there will be pitfalls along the way, but Harry will catch her, so stay close to him. Nothing will happen if you’re close to the Queen’s grandson,” he added. “But if you stray away from him and start to do things by yourself, that’s when there could be problems.”

Of course, Markle is likely well-prepared for the holidays, as she did spend them with the royal family in 2017 after announcing her engagement as well.
