Why Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Might Choose These Baby Names
The world will be waiting when their bundle of joy arrives in Spring 2019, and now, there may be a few hints about names that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are considering when they welcome either a son or daughter or next year.
The royal family confirmed that the Duchess of Sussex was expecting in October, and since then, fans of the newly-married royal couple have been eager to learn anything they can about the couple’s plans for their first child. Now, earlier this week, Prince Charles dropped some hints about names he thinks have made the shortlist—and which haven’t--when it comes to what his newest grandchild will be named.
According to People, during a visit on Thursday to Australia House with his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, Charles revealed that during the couple’s recent trip to Australia they received several different name suggestions, and he suspects that two, in particular, are in higher contention than others.
“Incidentally ladies and gentlemen, my son Harry tells me that during their recent tour of Australian he and his wife were offered countless thoughtful suggestions for the naming of their forthcoming baby,” he said. “Just between us, I suspect that Kylie and Shane may possibly make the shortlist.”
“But ladies and gentlemen, I would not hold your breath for Edna or Les,” he added, joking about actor Barry Humphries, who was in attendance at the event and is known for playing characters Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson.
Other names that have surfaced as potentials since the pair’s announcement have been Harriet—the female version of Harry’s name—and Victoria, Alice and Elizabeth for girls. Of the names, those three are the ones that are most heavily considered amongst bookmakers. Betting odds are high on Albert, Arthur and Alexander for boys.
The idea that the pair would name their child after either of Prince Harry’s parents, both Charles and Princess Diana, has also not been discounted. It is expected however that like his brother, Prince William, and Kate Middleton, they will follow tradition and not reveal their child’s name until after birth.
