Why Meghan Markle Split From Ex-Husband Trevor Engelson; Didn’t Dump Him
Meghan Markle was previously married to another man before she wed Prince Harry.
Markle and Trevor Engelson tied the knot on Sept. 10, 2011, in Jamaica. The couple’s wedding was a four-day affair attended by their family and loved ones. Two years after tying the knot, Markle and Engelson decided to go their separate ways. Their divorce was finalized in August 2013.
In the Channel 5 documentary “Meghan Markle: Movies, Marriages & Motherhood,” royal correspondent Ashley Pierson revealed that real reason why the couple split. She said that their main issue was distance.
“As soon as they married, she got the gig on ‘Suits’ and she was in Toronto and he was in LA. The relationship just didn’t last,” she said.
Last year, royal biographer Andrew Morton wrote in his book “Meghan: A Hollywood Princess” that the Duchess of Sussex just dumped Engelson after their nine-year-relationship out of the blue. After they split, Markle returned her engagement and wedding rings to the producer.
One of Engelson’s friends was quoted in Morton’s book as saying that Markle’s ex-husband felt like he was a piece of something stuck at the bottom of his wife’s shoes after Prince Harry’s wife suddenly rose to fame.
But years after their divorce, both Markle and Engelson have found love. The “Suits” alum tied the knot with Prince Harry on May 19, 2018, at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. Engelson, on the other hand, just wed Tracey Kurland.
Engelson and Kurland tied the knot at a hotel in California just days before Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their first child. A close friend of Kurland told The Sun that the heiress to multimillion-dollar empire has been a breath of fresh air for Engelson.
“The name of Meghan never comes up in conversations they are around friends and we all get the feeling neither are bothered about what happens in her life,” the friend said.
