Why Meghan Markle’s Dad Keeps Doing Interviews Amid Rift With Daughter

With a recent wedding to Prince Harry and a baby on the way, it’s been a whirlwind year for Meghan Markle. There’s a lot of happiness in her life right now, but there are still some problems in her life, including her relationship with her father, Thomas Markle.

The two haven’t spoken in months, and many people are commenting to Thomas to tell him that they think it’s because he keeps talking about the Duchess of Sussex with the press.

“I read comments every day,” Thomas said during an interview with “Good Morning Britain” on Monday. “People send them to me… some people are always letting me know that I’m still talking. And we talked about this last week, it was a matter of, ‘Why does he continue to keep talking? If he’d just shut up, [Meghan and Prince Harry] would talk to me.’ Well, I’ve been quiet for six months, and no one’s returned anything back to me. No one’s said a word to me. I’m confused by it.”

Meghan’s dad said he’s “not sure why” he now has a bad relationship with his daughter and doesn’t know why she won’t speak to him.

“I’m reaching out. I’ve been trying to reach for several weeks,” he said. “Every day I try to text her. I just haven’t received any comment back…I just keep asking her to respond back to me, and I haven’t got any response back. I have sent a letter, as well.”

Despite not getting any responses from the mom-to-be in months, Thomas is “hopeful” their issues will be resolved soon and the two will start talking again.

“This [silence] can’t continue forever. People are saying I should be quiet about this and not speak, if I don’t speak, they’ll speak to me, and that hasn’t happened,” he said. “I don’t plan to be silent for the rest of my life. I love my daughter very much, and she has to know that. And I would really appreciate if she would just call me or reach out somehow to me. Just send me a text.”

He left everyone with one final thought on the matter: “I think she’ll reach out in time, and I’m hoping that [happens]. She knows I’m here.”
