Nicolas Cage is not watching his new movie “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” when it comes out for a reason.

The 57-year-old Hollywood actor recently spoke candidly about his upcoming film that is slated for release in 2022 and revealed that he won’t be watching it at all.

In the Tom Gormican-directed feature film, Cage is playing as himself but not really his real persona. Instead, he is portraying a “neurotic, anxiety-ridden” version of himself in the movie, and this is the reason why he is not watching it.

“Let me just say that, in... ‘Massive Talent,’ I am delivering Tom Gormican's version of so-called 'Nick Cage,' which is a very neurotic, high-anxiety version of Nic Cage, which he kept pushing me to go towards,” Cage told Entertainment Weekly in a phone chat earlier this week.

The superstar went on to say that he won’t be viewing the film to see his performance in it because it would be too much for him.

“I’m going to go on record that I will personally not participate in the viewing of the movie because it's just too much of a head trip for me,” he explained to the outlet.

Although he is not watching the finished product of his work, he hopes that many people would watch it because he said he really made it for audience, and he was also told that it’s a good film.

“I am told it's a good movie, and I am told people really enjoy the ride, and I know the studio is very high on it. I made it for the audience. I'm hopeful they get some kicks out of it,” he said of the movie that will be released by Lionsgate.

The film stars Pedro Pascal as a Mexican billionaire and notorious drug lord who is a big fan of Nicolas Cage. The actor’s wife and daughter are kidnapped in the movie, and Pascal’s character forces Cage to recreate his iconic roles in exchange for their freedom, as per IndieWire.

In an interview with Empire magazine last year, Cage already expressed that he disliked his role in the film.

“It’s a stylized version of me, and the fact I even have to refer to myself in the third person makes me extremely uncomfortable. I don’t like to look back. But this movie kind of pushes it all back in my face,” he told the outlet at the time.

“The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent” is set to release on April 22, 2022.
