Why Prince Charles Got Annoyed With Prince Andrew’s Government-Allied Role Amid Rift Rumors
Prince Charles and Prince Andrew have been pitted against each other for years. In fact, there are ongoing rumors that the royal siblings don’t get along well.
But there was one particular incident wherein the future King became annoyed with his younger brother. During an interview with Vanity Fair, royal author Robert Jobson told American journalist Edward Klein that the Prince of Wales felt unhappy with the Duke of York’s appointment as trade envoy after he left the Navy in 2001.
The dad of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie was given the role of special representative for trade and investment, and he was required to promote British businesses abroad. Prince Andrew also worked for the United Kingdom’s Trade and Investment sector, which directly reports to the Foreign Office, as well as the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills.
Ten years after his appointment, Prince Andrew stepped down from his post after he faced criticism over his decisions. According to Jobson, Sarah Ferguson’s ex-husband was accused of making controversial decisions with his two daughters in mind.
Prince Charles, on the other hand, wanted to streamline the royal family. He also refused to include Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie in the payroll.
But even before they had children, Prince Charles and Prince Andrew’s relationship was already strained. In the book “Andrew: The Playboy Prince,” royal author Andrew Morton said that Prince Andrew disliked the comparisons made between him and Prince Charles while they were in school.
“Throughout his school career and beyond, inevitable and sometimes unfair comparisons have been made between Andrew and his elder brother. To Andrew’s obvious chagrin, he found that whatever his achievements, be it in acting, swimming or sailing, Charles had done it first and usually done it better,” he said.
Prince Andrew also earned the nickname Action Man Two for copying his brother’s antics, and he was not pleased to receive the offensive moniker from his schoolmates.
