When Princess Diana and Prince Charles married in 1981, the public praised their fairytale royal wedding. However, some may not have noticed the embarrassing mistakes the bride and groom made throughout the ceremony.

Although wedding days are often associated with happiness, it can also be a nerve-wracking experience. Diana and Charles allowed their nerves to get the best of them on their special day as millions of people watched them exchange vows.

In the book, “Andrew: The Playboy Prince,” Andrew Morton revealed the Prince of Wales’ sibling taunted Diana after she made a mistake while reciting her vows. During the ceremony, Diana called her husband “Philip Charles” rather than “Charles Philip.”

“At the Buckingham Palace reception afterward, clown Prince Andrew was on his best form, teasing his new sister-in-law and telling the new Princess of Wales: ‘You married my father,’” Morton wrote.

Before walking down the aisle, Princess Diana also suffered a wardrobe disaster. After she spilled a bottle of her favorite perfume, Quelques Fleurs on her gown, Diana was tasked with hiding the stains with her hand for the entire ceremony.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles’ mistakes were just as embarrassed as his blushing bride. Like Diana, the Prince of Wales also stumbled over his vows. During the ceremony, Charles vowed to offer Diana his “worldly goods” rather than offering her “thy goods.”

Once the ceremony was finally over, Prince Charles forgot to kiss his bride at the altar. However, he managed to redeem himself by kissing his new bride on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

The kiss was allegedly encouraged by Prince Andrew who told his brother to give Diana a smooch in front of the crowd. “On the Palace balcony later, it was Andrew who was responsible for ‘That Kiss,’” Morton revealed.

“As bride and groom waved happily to the hundreds of thousands thronging outside the Palace, Andrew urged Charles: ‘Give her a kiss!’ Big brother obliged, to the delight of the nation.”

Although Prince Charles and Princess Diana managed to get through the ceremony, their marriage eventually fell apart. In 1996, the couple finalized their divorce following a tense public scandal.
