Prince Harry and Meghan Markle skipped the reception for world leaders at Buckingham Palace Sunday because they reportedly got "uninvited."
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were invited to the reception at Buckingham Palace for international leaders, but they skipped the event because they were no longer working members of the royal family, Entertainment Tonight reported. The reception was for working royal family members only, the outlet noted.
"It's understood that the family wanted Prince Harry to be there, even though he was unable to get to Balmoral in time to see his grandmother," royal expert Katie Nicholl, the author of "Harry: Life, Loss, and Love," told ET.
The outlet noted that Prince Harry and Markle skipping the event only showed that there's mixed feelings about how much the royal family wanted the Sussexes to take part in the Queen's official funeral plans. It reportedly started when they did not allow Markle to join her husband on his trip to Balmoral to see the Queen.
Initially, Prince Harry and Markle said they were both traveling to Scotland to see the Queen. However, Prince William's brother arrived solo.
"But Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, was not, we understand, invited to join the family," Nicholl added. "She has said she will go to Balmoral another time. But I think it is quite significant that Prince Harry traveled to Balmoral on his own without his wife."
Prince Harry was also not allowed to wear his military uniform and salute when Queen Elizabeth's coffin was taken from Buckingham Palace for a procession through the streets of London before arriving at Westminster Hall.
Prince Harry's rep released a statement to address his not wearing of military uniform during the Queen's coffin procession.
"Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, will wear a mourning suit throughout events honoring his grandmother," the statement read. "His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears, and we respectfully ask that focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."
Shortly after the statement was released, the palace said he would be allowed to wear his military uniform in a special vigil by the Queen's grandchildren. However, he was also left "heartbroken" because the Queen's "ER" initials were removed from his uniform.
"To remove his grandmother's initials feels very intentional," a friend, who was not named, told the Sunday Times of London.
