Why Prince William Is Blamed For Prince Harry, Meghan Markle’s Absence At Christmas
This Christmas Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be making new holiday memories with baby Archie, but they will be doing so far away from the royal family. Although Christmas is typically spent at Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham estate, the couple has chosen to travel abroad.
The couple’s decision has fueled rumors that they are at odds with other members of the royal family, particularly Prince William. Even though the rumored rift is said to be the cause of Meghan and Harry’s absence, royal commentators have suggested that the Duke of Cambridge is the source.
In 2018, royal biographer Katie Nicholl wrote an article for Vanity Fair, in which she claimed the “fall out” between the brothers began during Christmas 2017. “According to one of the princes’ mutual friends, there was a fallout last Christmas when Harry told William he didn’t think his older brother was doing enough to welcome Meghan into the family,” she wrote.
“Harry felt William wasn’t rolling out the red carpet for Meghan and told him so,” the friend revealed.
Although Prince Charles attempted to diffuse the rising tension between his sons, the damaged was done. “They had a bit of a fall out which was only resolved when Charles stepped in and asked William to make an effort,” Nicholl claimed.
“That’s when the Cambridges invited the Sussexes to spend Christmas with them.”
Although Harry and Meghan joined William and Kate Middleton that Christmas, the following year, they declined the couple’s invitation. Tensions reportedly continued to grow throughout the year, and the couples’ strained relationship has yet to be mended.
