Why Prince William, Kate Middleton Were Welcomed With ‘Awkward Silence’ At BAFTAs
Prince William and Kate Middleton recently attended the BAFTAs and were met with an awkward silence on their way to the venue.
According to Harper’s Bazaar, the royal couple’s arrival was announced by the emcees at the event and everyone present at the venue stood up to welcome them. However, no one cheered for Prince William and Middleton.
Some attendees at the BAFTAs took out their phones and took pictures of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. They were also all smiles at seeing them walk past. However, no one really made any sound.
The publication noted that the quietness was probably a display of royal decorum since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also received the same welcome when they attended the gala performance of the play “The Wider Earth” at London’s Natural History Museum.
A video of Prince William and Middleton arriving at the venue also showed how the mom of three seemingly commented about the awkward silence in the room. Some royal fans also took notice of it and shared their thoughts on Twitter.
“Uh, way too quiet… why no applause? Is the crowd making some sort of statement? I’m an American so pardon my ignorance on royal protocol,” one person tweeted.
“It was kind of strange too the way they all turned to the side. The whole thing was just weird. The silence…” another person commented.
In related news, Prince William and Middleton also made headlines at the BAFTAs after they were spotted in a very sweet exchange of words. Even though their conversation remains to be unknown, Prince William was photographed leaning in toward his wife while listening to what she was saying.
Throughout the night, the couple was also spotted looking into each other’s eyes and laughing. But on their way to the venue, Prince William and Middleton stayed true to what they have been doing for years and didn’t hold hands.
Prince Harry and Markle, on the other hand, held hands while at the gala performance on Tuesday night.
