Why Prince William, Prince Harry Reportedly 'Can't Stomach' Working Together Anymore
Prince William and Prince Harry announced that they will be splitting their households earlier this week. And while many, including royal aides, have said that the brothers' separation was inevitable, one journalist said that tensions might have gone from bad to worse between Prince William and his younger brother.
UK paper The Sun's executive editor Dan Wootton recently claimed in a report that Prince William and Prince Harry have been finding it difficult to work together. The sons of Prince Charles and Princess Diana have long been teaming up for charitable projects, such as their Heads Together campaign with Kate Middleton. But Wootton claimed that the royal brothers "cannot even stomach keeping their charitable projects together as they separate their households."
The journalist went on to claim that when they have joint engagements, Prince William prefers to show up first so that he could control the flood of media stories about the royal family. According to Wootton, Middleton's husband reportedly does this to present a more serious image and steer stories "away from gimmicks.
Wootton asserted that the rift between Prince William and Prince Harry worsened when the latter began dating and eventually married Meghan Markle.
"Many want to believe the bond between the two lads who grew up in the brutal spotlight of their mother’s death is unbreakable, which is the case when taking the big picture into account," he wrote.
"But a gulf has developed between them since Meghan empowered Harry to be the new-age celebrity royal he’s tried to become for years," he continued.
Wootton added that Prince William reportedly takes into account his image as the future king. "As a future king, William wants to take a more serious approach, anchored in realism and keeping away from gimmicks," he wrote.
However, this seems to be different from what royal aides and experts have said about Prince William and Prince Harry's relationship and their split.
Victoria Arbiter, a royal commentator whose father worked for Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, told Town & Country that the two brothers "were always going to divide their offices because they have very different roles."
Marlene Koenig, a historian and the author of the royal-centric blog Royal Musings, echoed her thoughts, telling Town & Country that the brothers' separation was "very normal." She explained this was par for course when a member of the royal family gets married.
Royal aides also told Daily Mail that Prince Harry and Markle moving to Buckingham Palace was not due to any feud between the brothers and their wives. Instead, it was just inevitable and had been planned for a while now, even before rumors of a rift surfaced in the media.
