Why Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip Are Closely Watching Future Monarchs Prince William, Kate Middleton
KEY POINTS
- Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth are carefully watching the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, according to a royal author
- The Firm is worried that Middleton and Prince William may repeat the same mistakes made by younger royals
- The royal author also shared that Prince William tripped when he first met Middleton
Prince William and Kate Middleton, who will be the future king and queen consort respectively, have many eyes on their every move, including that of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, a royal author claimed.
In the new documentary "William & Kate: Too Good to Be True?," Tom Quinn revealed that the monarch and her husband, who recently turned 99, are keeping the Cambridges under close scrutiny as they are next in line to the throne, Daily Mail reported. The Firm is allegedly worried that the couple may “repeat mistakes made by other young royals.”
The author went on to claim that the royal family doesn’t want the errors to happen again and so they are being “watched closely” by Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
“The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, will be watching very carefully, especially given that younger royals in the past have got things very badly wrong and they don't want that to happen again,” Quinn claimed.
After his father, Prince Charles, Prince William is the next in line in the succession to the throne. It is worth noting that Queen Elizabeth is already 94 and has reigned for the longest period among all British monarchs — 68 years. However, she will be turning 95 next year — the same age that Prince Philip was when he resigned from his royal duties.
As such, there have been rumors that Queen Elizabeth may be handing over her post to Prince Charles soon. Middleton, who has been assisting the sovereign in the past years, has been observed to have stepped up.
Meanwhile, Quinn also shared anecdotes about Prince William and Middleton, revealing the moment that the Duke of Cambridge tripped as he was in a rush to introduce himself to her in 2001.
“One of the funny stories is he was so desperate to meet her that as he walked towards her, he apparently tripped and said, ‘Oh that's a terrible start, you're going to think I'm a complete clot,’” Prince William reportedly said.
The documentary also shed some light on Middleton’s life post-St. Andrews, such as the duchess getting a job as an accessory buyer, but only part-time. Rebecca English, Daily Mail’s royal commentator, claimed that at the time, Middleton told her boss that she was only seeking part-time work because of her relationship with a high-profile person.
