Why Selena Gomez Didn't Attend Grammys This Year
Selena Gomez is just one of the several celebrities who skipped this year’s Grammy Awards. But Gomez’s reasons for not attending are more practical rather than controversial.
Gomez was inactive on social media for a long time, and it was only recently that she came back on Instagram to interact with her fans. According to Elle, the singer had neither nominations at the Grammys nor a performance. These two reasons are strong enough for the singer to skip the event.
One person that Gomez has relied on a lot in the past is Taylor Swift. The two singers went to the Grammys in 2016, which was Gomez’s last appearance at the annual ceremony. This time around, Swift also skipped the event.
Swift was nominated in the best pop vocal album at the 2019 Grammys, but she lost to Ariana Grande, who also skipped the event. Swift was actually busy in London filming her new movie, “Cats.” She did manage to attend the BAFTAs after party to support her boyfriend Joe Alwyn’s victory.
Gomez has maintained a low profile ever since she had to go through a kidney transplant because of complications from lupus. According to People, insiders confirmed that the singer is “feeling much better” and is “looking forward to getting back to normal.”
The kidney transplant and the repeated hospitalization affected Gomez deeply, and she suffered from depression and anxiety.
In a post on Instagram last month, Gomez talked about how 2018 was a year of “self-reflection,” “challenges” and “growth.” She thanked the fans for their support and said that she is “proud” of the person that she is now becoming after facing all the challenges. “It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming,” Gomez wrote.
In another post on Instagram, Gomez said that she can’t wait to show her fans the projects she has been working on. She teased that there is “lots to look forward to” this year.
