Wife, Lover Arrested For Allegedly Murdering Husband To Continue Their Affair
A woman and her lover have been arrested in India for allegedly murdering the former's husband to continue their extramarital affair.
The suspects, identified as Hema and Sachin from the capital city of Delhi, were arrested after they admitted to murdering the woman's husband, 40-year-old Suresh, on Dec. 4, news outlet The Times of India reported.
The investigation began after cops received a report from a hospital that a man was brought dead to the facility, news outlet India Today reported.
The police initially did not suspect foul play as family members did not raise any suspicion in his death.
"During the postmortem, statements of the family members were recorded, and nobody raised any doubt on the death," investigating officer Amrutha Guguloth told The Times of India.
However, the autopsy report suggested the man died from a combined effect of asphyxia due to antemortem compression of the neck and injury of the liver by blunt force trauma.
The police then registered a case of murder and questioned Hema, Suresh's children, and neighbors. Meanwhile, Suresh's son Nishant and a neighbor, who brought him to the hospital, raised their suspicion about Hema and her lover.
During interrogation, Hema made contradicting statements to the cops, which prompted them to take her and Sachin into custody. The duo eventually confessed to the crime.
Hema told the cops that she had been in a relationship with Sachin for the past two years. The couple conspired to kill Suresh to continue their affair, the police said.
On the day of the incident, the duo offered Suresh alcohol and strangled him while he was intoxicated. They then reportedly kicked his neck and abdomen until he died.
The charges filed against the duo have not been revealed.
In a similar incident last month, a woman and her lover were arrested in India for allegedly murdering the former's husband and burying his body in a pit. The police found the body of the victim, identified as Chandra Vir from Ghaziabad, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, almost 4 years after he went missing. The victim was shot and hacked to death by the couple, reports said.
