Will ‘The Crown’ Return For Season 4? Renewal, Cancellation Details
“The Crown” fans are already binge-watching Season 3 on Netflix, and they can rest assured the series isn’t getting canceled. The historical drama was already renewed for Season 4.
Netflix actually renewed “The Crown” for Season 3 and Season 4 at the same time. That also allowed them to film the seasons back-to-back. The fourth installment is filming now.
“The Crown” Season 4 will bring in more familiar names and perhaps the royal that fans are most excited to see: Princess Diana. “The Crown” Season 3 ends in 1977, which is the year Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer met. The next season should introduce the Prince of Wales’ first wife rather quickly. Emma Corrin will play the beloved royal.
The fourth season will also introduce Margaret Thatcher. “The X-Files” star Gillian Anderson will play Britain’s first female Prime Minister. Serving from 1979 to 1990, it’s safe to say audiences will see plenty of her in the coming season.
In 2016, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos assured fans that the series would have a home on the streaming platform for years to come. Showrunner Peter Morgan pitched the expensive drama as a six-season series.
“It's a crazy idea to come in with a 60-hour pitch,” Sarandos noted, according to the Hollywood Reporter. ‘The idea is to do this over six decades, in six seasons presumably, and make the whole show over eight to 10 years.”
“The Crown” Season 4 does not yet have a premiere date.
