Will Davante Adams Be Suspended? Raiders WR Could Miss Time For Postgame Push
Davanate Adams' first season with the Las Vegas Raiders is off to a rough start. The wide receiver could be suspended for pushing a person who was carrying equipment on the field in the immediate aftermath of the team's 30-29 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night.
Video of Adams pushing a man to the ground as he headed to the locker room aired on ESPN's "SportsCenter" shortly after the contest. Adams was remorseful in speaking with reporters and issued another apology on Twitter.
"I want to apologize to the guy, there was some guy running off the field, and he ran, like jumped in front of me coming off the field and I bumped into him, kind of pushed him, and he ended up on the ground," Adams told the media.
"So I wanted to say sorry to him for that because that was just frustration mixed with him literally just running in from of me. I shouldn't have responded that way, but that's how I initially responded. So, I want to apologize to him for that."
According to NFL Network's Tom Pellissero, Adams is facing discipline from the NFL, and potentially even a suspension. There was no immediate word from the NFL about any possible penalties.
Las Vegas has a bye in Week 6 before hosting the Houston Texans in Week 7.
The Raiders can ill-afford to lose Adams for even one game. Monday's loss dropped Las Vegas to 1-4, putting the team in sole possession of last place in the AFC West. The Raiders are tied with four other teams for the worst record in football.
Adams has put up good individual stats with 29 receptions for 414 yards, and his five receiving touchdowns are good for second in the league. The veteran caught touchdown passes of 48 and 58 yards in Kansas City, which nearly helped Las Vegas pull off the upset.
During his last three seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Adams won three division titles and made two trips to the NFC Championship Game. Las Vegas had high expectations for the 2022 season, trading for Adams after making the playoffs.
The Raiders signed Adams to a five-year, $140 million contract.
