Will Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Skip Post-Birth Photo Call With Baby?
Everyone knows that tradition is expected in the royal family. Every time Kate Middleton gives birth, she will give birth in the Lindo Wing and emerge hours later for a photo call with Prince William and the new baby. However, some believe that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might not have a post-birth photo op.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are known for wanting a private life, and royal reporter Katie Nicholl, author of “Harry and Meghan: Life, Loss and Love,” would not be surprised if they skip the traditional posing with the baby for photographers.
“There is a little bit of me that wonders if Harry might avoid it all together and keep this birth low-key — perhaps not doing the traditional photo call we've become accustomed to,” Nicholl told Marie Claire.
When the Duchess of Cambridge gives birth, she emerges just hours later in full hair and makeup and a pristine outfit to pose with the Duke of Cambridge and the new baby. Kate has received some criticism for promoting unrealistic expectations while following this tradition, which also may contribute to Meghan and Harry's decision on if they will follow suit.
Nicholl went on to speculate that the two will introduce the royal baby to the world in a more modern way. After all, they do have brand new Sussex Royal social media accounts.
“Maybe we'll have a photograph of the threesome posted on their new Instagram account rather than posing on the steps of the hospital,” she added. “With Meghan and Harry, their wedding proved that anything is possible. While we have seen Harry do things differently, he’s a traditionalist at heart, and he has great respect for the establishment that he was born into.”
This is part of why Meghan is widely rumored to be choosing a different hospital rather than giving birth at the Lindo Wing. It also just makes sense for the Duchess to go to Frimley Park, which is very close to Frogmore Cottage, the new home of the Sussexes.
Insiders previously told Us Weekly (in the Jan. 21 print issue) that Meghan and Harry wanted to go to a hospital outside the city to avoid the media circus outside St. Mary’s Hospital, where the Lindo Wing is located.
“It will be much less chaos and more a private event than if she gives birth in London [at high profile St. Mary’s hospital] like Kate did,” the insider said.
Of course, there are rumors that Meghan will take her need for privacy a step further. She is also rumored to be considering a home birth.
Meghan and Harry have not confirmed their plans for the day their first child is born, so royal watchers will just have to wait and see what happens.
