Her rift with her family has been plaguing her since her engagement to Prince Harry was first announced, but at least one member of Meghan Markle’s family seems hopeful that they can all get a fresh new start some day and put their differences behind them.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Markle’s half-brother, Thomas Jr., shared a look at the Christmas card he allegedly sent to the Duchess of Sussex and her husband, and inside the greeting, he made an appeal to his half-sister, stating that he hoped they could mend the family in the New Year.

“May we all have a wonderful Christmas this year,” he wrote. “It would be nice to mend our family back together for the New Year.”

He also told Daily Mail that he believes at some point, his sister will want to reunite with her estranged family because she will realize she’s missing them as she continues immersing herself within the royal family.

“I think everybody misses not being around some sort of family for Christmas, especially when it’s not something they’re really used to,” he said. “I think when she sees the difference between the Christmas she spends at the Palace, and she doesn’t have her family around her, I think she’ll realize that she’s missing something.”

“With everything that’s gone on for the last two years, I think the New Year is the perfect time for a new beginning for her, for the family. Just to start over, start fresh and make some sort of contact. Definitely to let my father see his grandchild when it’s born,” he added. “I would feel pretty honored if she opened up her door and invited the Markles in to see their new relative, the new baby. It would mean a lot.”

His appeal comes one day after their father, Thomas Markle Sr. appeared on ITV’s “Good Morning Britain” to also appeal to his daughter to mend their relationship in time for the holidays.

While the Duchess, who is expecting her first child in the new year, hasn’t actively reached out to her estranged family members, she won’t be without someone from her past when she celebrates with the royal family this Christmas. Her mother, Doria Ragland, was reportedly invited to spend Christmas with the family by Queen Elizabeth herself.
