Will Netflix’s ‘The Ranch’ Continue Without Fired Danny Masterson?
Netflix has decided to fire “The Ranch” star Danny Masterson after multiple rape allegations.
Four women have accused the actor of raping them in the early 2000s, and now, after a public outcry, Netflix has decided to take action.
“As a result of ongoing discussions, Netflix and the producers have written Danny Masterson out of ‘The Ranch,’” a Netflix spokesperson told TVLine. “[Monday] was his last day on the show, and production will resume in early 2018 without him.”
The series, which also stars Ashton Kutcher, Masterson’s fellow “That ‘70s Show” alum, is currently filming its third season.
Sources tell TVLine that Masterson’s character, Jameson “Rooster” Bennett, will appear in the second half of Season 2, which comes out on the streaming service on Dec. 15. The inside sources also said that he will be in a few Season 3 episodes, as well, before his character is gone.
While Netflix has just shared the news of Masterson’s firing, the actor has already spoken with TMZ about the service’s decision.
“I am obviously very disappointed in Netflix’s decision to write my character off of ‘The Ranch,’” he said. “From day one, I have denied the outrageous allegations against me. Law enforcement investigated these claims more than 15 years ago and determined them to be without merit.”
He continued: “I have never been charged with a crime, let alone convicted of one. In this country you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. However, in the current climate, it seems as if you are presumed guilty the moment you are accused.”
As of now, the rest of the cast has yet to react to the news of Masterson’s firing with their thoughts on the situation.
Netflix describes the series, which is set in present-day Colorado, as a family comedy that follows “Colt’s (Kutcher) return home after a brief and failed semi-pro football career to run the family ranching business with his older brother Jameson and father Beau (Sam Elliott), whom he hasn’t seen in 15 years.”
Colt’s and Jimmy’s mother, Maggie (Net Winger), runs the local town bar, which is often used as a hangout.
The show also stars Elisha Cuthbert (Abby), and another “That 70’s Show” alum, Wilmer Valderrama (Umberto).
Aside from his Netflix series, there has not been any news yet on how Masterson’s rape allegations will affect his work on the upcoming 2018 comedy “Killing Winston Jones” with Richard Dreyfuss, Danny Glover and Jon Heder, as well as his thriller “In Limbo” with Alexandra Breckenridge
