Prince Charles wants to slim down the British monarchy just like what King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden did.

According to Express , King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden has sensationally removed several members from the royal house. The king announced his decision to boot some of his grandchildren from the royal family to “establish which members of The Royal Family may be expected to perform official duties.”

“His Majesty The King has decided on changes to The Royal House,” an official statement from Fredrik Wersäll, the Marshal of the Realm, said. “The purpose of these changes is to establish which members of The Royal Family may be expected to perform official duties incumbent on the Head of State or related to the function of the Head of State.”

King Carl XVI Gustaf announced that the children of Their Royal Highnesses Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, and Her Royal Highnesses Princess Madeleine and Mr. Christopher O’Neill will no longer be members of The Royal House. This left Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar, the two children of the heir apparent, the only grandchildren remaining as part of The Royal House.

Prince Charles is also open to doing the same to the British royal family. Prince Andrew and his daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie will be hit by the Prince of Wales’ groundbreaking reform once it will be carried out.

According to Katie Nicholl in her book “Harry: Life, Loss and Love,” the heir apparent already did this by leaving out the Duke of York for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration in 2012. Prince Charles streamlined the royal family by only inviting Camilla Parker Bowles, Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry.

“It is no secret that Charles wants a more streamlined Royal Family when he comes to reign,” Nicholl added.

Prince Charles’ decision reportedly upset Prince Andrew. Nicholl added that Prince Philip would have not allowed it, but the Duke of Edinburgh was sick and also did not make it to the event.

“It did cause some ill-feeling among some members of the extended family, including Prince Andrew, who was particularly upset not to have been included,” Nicholl continued.
