Will Prince William Have Diana Reburied With Other Royals? Fans Discuss
Princess Diana has been dead for over two decades, and she was buried in her family’s Althorp estate.
On the online forum site Quora, some royal fans talked about whether or not there is a possibility that Prince William will have his mom reburied with the other royals when he becomes king. Eileen Wood, a real estate assistant, said that even if Prince William can have his mom reburied elsewhere, it’s highly unlike for him to do so.
“Where she is buried now is private, it’s not a tourist attraction. It’s privacy his mother couldn’t get after the day the engagement was announced,” she said.
Wood also said that Princess Diana was no longer considered an official member of the royal family at the time of her death. After she divorced Prince Charles, the Princess of Wales already lost her royal status and as such, she is no longer entitled to be buried alongside other royals.
Graeme Hall, a former solicitor from England, said that Prince William will most likely not want to rebury his mom with the other royals because doing so would require a tedious procedure.
“He would have to apply for an exhumation of her remains. This is likely I would have thought to be opposed by his mother’s family,” Hall said.
Nicole Williams said that out of respect for Princess Diana, the Duke of Cambridge will most likely not want to have her moved considering she’s been dead for over two decades. Williams said that Prince Harry would also want to leave things at that when it comes to their mom.
Princess Diana passed away following a fatal car crash in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997. At that time, she has already been divorced from Prince Charles for a year. Princess Diana was already dating her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed at that time, and he was also with her during the crash. Al Fayed also passed away following the incident.
