Will Smith Chides Jada In Resurfaced Video: 'You Can't Just Use Me For Social Media'
A resurfaced video of Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith has been making the rounds online, showing a heated exchange between the couple. The 49-second clip comes weeks after the actor's controversial moment with Chris Rock at the Oscars.
Filmed by Jada on her Instagram Live in 2019 to promote her show, "Red Table Talk," the clip first circulated on Reddit this week and was quick to spark speculations about the state of Will and Jada's marriage. In the video, a visibly upset Will warns his wife not to "use" him for clout, telling her that social media is his "bread and butter."
The clip begins with Jada telling Will, "You know Esther Perel is coming to the table. She's gonna be at the 'Red Table.'" Panning the camera to Will, she asks her husband, "Would you say she has been instrumental in you and I redefining our relationship?"
"I would say don't just start filming me without asking me," Will answers.
Despite her husband being obviously annoyed, Jada continues to film him, telling her viewers she's "still dealing with foolishness."
"Would you say that she helped us heal the hurts that we caused between one another?" she asks Will again. The actor then snaps back, saying, "My social media presence is my bread and butter so you can't just use me for social media. Don't just start rolling. I'm standing in my house. Don't start rolling."
The clip has earned lots of comments from Reddit users, with many pointing out that the "Gemini Man" star looks "uncomfortable" and "anxious" around his wife. "He looks hella anxious like he knows Jada is going to provoke him and he's afraid of how it will go down," one user wrote.
In September 2021, Will admitted that he and his wife haven't always had a monogamous relationship, adding that his wife does not believe in a conventional marriage. "Jada never believed in conventional marriage. Jada had family members that had an unconventional relationship, so she grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up," he explained.
