Will Smith Drops 'King Richard' Trailer; Recalls Portraying Muhammad Ali
Will Smith took to Instagram on Wednesday to share the official trailer of the highly anticipated sports drama movie "King Richard." While talking about this new project, the 52-year-old actor also looked back to when he portrayed Muhammad Ali.
"King Richard" is based on the true story of Richard Williams, played by Smith, and his two daughters Venus and Serena Williams, who became tennis superstars. The daughters are played by actors Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton, respectively.
In the post's caption, Smith expressed his appreciation for the real-life legends and celebrated their legacy.
"One of the greatest honors as an actor is to be able to celebrate someone's legacy while they're still here creating it," the "Men In Black" actor wrote. "I've gotten to do it a few times in my career playing @ceoofhappyness and @muhammadali, and every time it's a fulfilling and expansive experience beyond compare."
"So now, I’m proud to show you all our first trailer for #KingRichard, the story of the man who introduced the world to @venuswilliams and @serenawilliams," he added. "The origin story for some REAL DEAL superheroes!!"
"Thank You Venus, Serena, Isha, Lyndrea, Yetunde, Oracene and Richard for letting us share your story with the World!" the actor concluded the post.
Many celebrities, including the cast members, took to the comments section to share their reactions to the trailer.
Singer Leslie Grace commented, "Wooooooow… cannot wait to see this one."
Sidney noted, "Playing a legend with a legend!!! My heart is sooo full!!!"
Author Jay Shetty praised Smith for portraying another legendary role, writing, "Iconic once again! Another legendary role."
Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake wrote, "LFG, big bro!!!!! _ ready!!!"
The actor flaunted his emotional side in the powerful trailer, which showed his character encouraging his daughters to become tennis champs.
"I wrote a 78-page plan for their whole career before they were even born," Smith can be heard saying. "You're going to be representing every little Black girl on Earth."
The trailer confirmed the movie is going to be a motivational one and will be packed with powerful dialogues. The sports drama is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and produced by Smith, Tim White, Trevor White and James Lassiter.
"King Richard" is all set to release in theaters and HBO Max simultaneously on Nov. 19.
