Will ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Introduce Final Infinity Stone?
The Infinity War is coming, but one Infinity Stone is still missing. The soul stone has yet to be introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that will change, according to “Thor: Ragnarok” star Chris Hemsworth.
The actor was attending Supernova Con in Sydney over the weekend, and a Reddit user reports that he said he’s aware of where the soul stone is located. Audience will apparently see it “real soon.” Unfortunately, it seems like that’s all the actor said about the matter. So just how soon could it appear? Assuming it shows up before “Avengers: Infinity War,” we only have a few options.
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” is the next movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), out July 7. Peter Parker (Tom Holland) will be honing his superhero skills and trying to prove his worth to Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). Between trying to balance his high school life with her secret identity, pleasing Tony Stark, fighting the Vulture, the Tinkerer and Shocker, Peter has his hands full. As indicated by the busy posters, the movie is jam packed with action, so it seems unlikely (though not impossible) that an Infinity Stone would be shoved into there as well.

The MCU’s next movie after the web-slinger is “Thor: Ragnarok,” so that makes the flick seem like the logical choice for the soul stone to appear. Plus, the third “Thor” installment takes place on Sakaar. It’s a planet full of lost items. It seems like the perfect location for an Infinity Stone to be hiding. Of course, “Black Panther” might also introduce the stone in February. Wakanda is full of mysteries, and it wouldn’t be too surprising for an Infinity Stone to end up there.
However, it would make sense for the soul stone to show up on a new planet. Rather than having everything mystical conveniently end up on Earth, the Infinity Stones have been spread throughout the universe. The Avengers sent the space stone back to Asgard with Thor. In “Thor: The Dark World,” the Asgardian sends the reality stone to the Collector on Knowhere for safe keeping. The mind stone is embedded in Vision’s head on Earth. The power stone is with the Nova Corps in Xandar. The time stone is also on Earth with Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).
Thanos (Josh Brolin) needs all of the Infinity Stones for the Infinity Gauntlet, that golden glove viewers saw at the end of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” The stones collectively would make someone beyond powerful. Thor described them as “the greatest power in the universe, unparalleled in its destructive capabilities” during “Ultron.”

The soul stone is an important piece of the puzzle. According to the Marvel Database, the stone is sentient in the comics. It actually wants to collect souls and can attack them in a variety of ways. Those who get captured will be inside of a utopian world, but whoever has the soul stone can access the memories and skills of the stone’s prisoners. The soul of whoever has the stone is protected from attacks. Basically, it’s going to be major trouble if Thanos has the soul stone. Let’s hope one of our heroes can keep it safe whenever it is finally introduced.
“Thor: Ragnarok” hits theaters Nov. 3, 2018.
