Willian Impresses In Arsenal Debut, Eyes More Titles With Gunners
KEY POINTS
- Willian impresses in debut with Arsenal against Fulham
- Willian out to win more titles
- Willian hardly showing signs of aging, providing teammates with the needed experience
Willian Borges da Silva had an impressive debut with Arsenal FC, a sign of things to come. Despite being 32-years-old, there is no question that the Brazilian has a lot left in the tank. And that was in full display, clearly showing that the midfielder wants to win more trophies while in a Gunners’ uniform.
The chance to win more titles was allegedly the reason why Willian decided to move to Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta reveals that the Brazilian is a hunger to win trophies and individual honors, making him the perfect addition to Arsenal's needs.
“With some players when that [winning trophies] happened they have a full stomach but with Willian, I got the opposite feeling, that he wanted more and how he wanted to move to a different club and get to the level that he got before,” Arteta said via Goal. “So I’m really pleased because he showed [at Fulham] how much he really wants it and how much he is going to drive the other players on in order to achieve that.”
Though he moved to Emirates Stadium in a short span of time, Willian appeared pretty comfortable with his new club. He set up two goals for the Gunners against Fulham, earning him the man of the match award over at Craven Cottage.
Looking beyond that, it is Willian’s veteran experience and winning mentality that Arteta hopes will rub off on the other players. That includes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyan, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the new face of the team Gabriel Magalhaes. And if their first game is to be a gauge, there is reason to expect more from the Gunners.
“I want to get the team to a level that performs as high as the team can perform and be the best as we can be,” Arteta said. “We’ve done it in one match, there are still a lot of things we need to improve collectively and individually as well.”
Arsenal’s good outing addresses concerns on their end. As mentioned in a previous post, there were several players out on injury. That included David Luiz who was out due to injury. There were other players in sickbay but other mainstays were able to step up for Arteta.
“Time will tell where we are at the end of the season, my only aim is to get things right for the next weekend and keep going,” Arteta said.
