Wimbledon: A Battle of Two Croatians in the First Round
The 2011 Wimbledon draw is out, and there is already one rather intriguing First Round match.
There are only four Croatians ranked in the Top 150 rankings, and the two best, Marin Cilic (No. 27) and Ivan Ljubicic (No. 36), will meet in the opening round.
The 22-year-old Cilic's best showing at Wimbledon was back in 2008 when he reached the Fourth Round. Tour veteran Ljubicic has struggled over his career at Wimbledon, having only advanced to the Third Round twice.
In the same bracket is Ivo Karlovic, the 6'10 Croatian hard server. Karlovic advanced to the quarterfinals in 2009.
Meanwhile, Ivan Dodig, ranked 42nd, is in a seperate bracket and will face a qualifier in his opening match. Dodig could potentially face seventh-seed David Ferrer in the Second Round. Dodig defeated Karlovic in the First Round of the 2011 Australian Open.
The only Croatian to ever win Wimbledon is Goran Ivanisevic in 2001, who had also reached the Finals three previous times.
