'Winds Of Winter': George RR Martin Shares Update Amid Coronavirus Lockdown

The coronavirus lockdown has forced George RR Martin to stay “up in the mountains” and finish “Winds of Winter.” The author recently shared an update about what he has been doing and he assured the fans that his priority has always been to write the next book in “A Song of Ice and Fire” series.

“I am still up in the mountains, doing the social distancing rag, and writing ‘WINDS OF WINTER,’” Martin wrote in his latest blog post.

The author explained that he has good days and bad days while trying to finish the book, but he promised that he has been making progress.

Martin had previously scaled down on public events and interviews to focus on writing. The coronavirus pandemic forced him to close down his theatre Jean Cocteau Cinema and his bookstore Beastly Books. The author, however, has been paying the salaries of all the employees while they stay home.

One of the events that Martin was supposed to be a part of was World Science Fiction Convention that will be held in New Zealand. The event will now take place in a virtual setting for the first time in its history, and Martin has been in touch with the organizers via email.

Apart from Writing, “Winds of Winter,” Martin has also been reading a lot. Some of his favorite writers include Howard Waldrop, Robert A. Heinlein, Roger Zelazny, Nnedi Okorafor, and Tony Hillerman. He has also been using this time to help raise money for charity and help support other writers and publishing professionals.

Martin is involved in a few new TV series, including HBO’s “Game of Thrones” spin-off “House of Dragon.” However, Martin pointed out that he will not be writing the scripts of any of these shows.

The only thing Martin is writing is the next book in “A Song of Ice and Fire. He previously told the fans that things are looking “pretty grim in the Seven Kingdoms.”

Martin intends to finish “Winds of Winter” this year. He will announce the completion of the book on his official blog as soon as he is done.
