There will be unicorns to look forward to in “Winds of Winter.” However, the fans may not get to see them as the beautiful creatures as depicted in other fantasy stories, because author George RR Martin has said that he will be bringing his own take on the horses in his novels.

Martin was a guest at Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s “StarTalk” recently, and he spoke about his writing. “A Song of Ice and Fire” is a fantasy series set in a world that resembles medieval Europe. There is magic and dragons in the novels, but the author pointed out that he has tried to be “accurate” in his depiction of some of the elements in the story.

Talking specifically about the horses in his books, Martin said that many fantasy writers don’t depict the horses accurately. “They make them these tireless beasts that can go anywhere and gallop for seven days straight,” Martin said about other writers.

When Tyson talked about how Martin doesn’t give wings to the horses in his stories like the mythical creature Pegasus, the “Winds of Winter” author shared one bit of information that he later felt that he should not have disclosed.

There will be unicorns in the next book in “A Song of Ice and Fire.” However, Martin explained that he will have an “interesting take on unicorns coming up in the books.” He later realized that he shouldn’t have revealed this and said “oops.”

Unicorns haven’t been see in Westeros so far. However they are supposed to be there in the mysterious island of Skagos, which supposedly inhabited by cannibals. Rickon Stark is supposed to have gone to this island, and the next book is expected to shed some light on the people and their lives on this island.

Martin is still writing “Winds of Winter,” and it remains to be seen how the unicorns in his books will be different from other fantasy novels. Horses appear to be on the author’s mind right now, as he recently shared a throwback picture of him on a farm.

The announcement of the completion of “Winds of Winter” will be made on Martin’s official blog. “The Draft is Coming,” the author’s recent blog post title read, but instead of a draft of the manuscript of the next book, the author talked about NFL.
