Winston Churchill day is marked anually on April 9 to honor the occasion of the former Britain Prime Minister becoming an Honorary Citizen of the United States. The actual occasion took place in 1963 when President John F Kennedy held a ceremony to grant the honorary citizenship.

Churchill, one of Britain's greatest leaders, guided the country through World War II. He was born in 1874 in Oxfordshire, England, and was elected to Parliament at the age of 26. He resigned during World War I but was later appointed to prime minister at the start of World War II.
